During Sept. 23^th- 25^th, the 3^rdInternational Paleogeography Conference was held in the Lecture Hall of Southwest Petroleum University. 74 paleogeography experts and 300 students from the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, Ireland, Poland, Romania, Australia, India and China participated in the conference.

The International Paleogeography Conference, held once every two years, is the highest-level international academic conference in the field of paleogeography. Main topics of this year’s conference include paleogeography and mineral resources, ultra-deep Meso- and Neoproterozoic paleogeography and mineral resources, lithofacies paleogeography and sedimentology, carbonate rock paleogeography, fine-grained sediments (sedimentary rocks) paleogeography, biological paleogeography, paleoichnology, microbolites, and bioherms, etc. Attendees presented research findings and advancements in paleogeography in recent years and discussed the direction of paleogeography and sedimentology development.

The conference received nearly 100 research papers in and abroad. 15 international scholars and 13 Chinese scholars delivered academic presentations covering paleogeography and its relevant disciplines, which presented important research findings in and abroad referring to the field of paleogeography, sedimentology and relevant disciplines in recent years. According to the review committee, 4 young scientists, including Chen Lei (Southwest Petroleum University), Angana Chaudhuri (Indian Institute of Technology Bombay), Zhu Keyu (China University of Geosciences), and Nivedita Chakrabortu (K.J.R Govt. General Degree College), were awarded the “Prize for Outstanding Papers by Young Scholars”. (SWPU School of Geoscience and Technology)
