Nobel Prize Winner Professor Malcolm Wilson Published Paper in Petroleum

Volume 3, Issue 1 ofPetroleum, with the topic of “Special issue on Carbon Capture, Utilization andStorage (CCUS): Technological developments and future opportunities forpetroleum industry”, has been published online and in-printed. We extendspecial thanks to Prof. Malcolm Wilson and his team. Prof. Wilson was a memberof the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) team awarded the NobelPeace Prize in 2007, and is currently a member of the international advisory board,Energy Academy of Europe. The group reports on “The IEAGHG Weyburn-Midale CO2Monitoring and Storage and EOR Project”, and provides interesting insights onthis important research project, which has contributed to cutting greenhousegas emissions by storing more than 25 million tons of anthropogenic CO2and is considered the world's largest CCUS project presently in operation.

Dr Paitoon (PT)Tontiwachwuthikul, honorary Editor-in-Chief of Petroleum, fellow of CanadianAcademy of Engineering, co-founder of Clean Energy Technologies ResearchInstitute (CETRi), is the Chief Editor for the CCUS special issue. Dr Fanhua(Bill) Zeng, editorial board member of Petroleum, program chair of PetroleumSystems Engineering, University of Regina, Canada, and Dr Christine W. Chan,Canada Research Chair Tier I in Energy Informatics, founder of EnergyInformatics Laboratory, University of Regina, Canada, are the Co-Editors forthis special issue.

The contents of thisspecial issue cover many significant issues related to the original theory andapplications of CCUS technologies, including new CO2 capturetechnologies, CO2 storage and EOR applications, as well as newmethods for CO2 utilizations and CO2 monitoring. Thediverse research efforts were conducted in 12 countries from around the world, including Canada, Australia, the United States, Germany, France, China, Turkey,Thailand, Qatar, Iran, Algeria and Malaysia. We hope that this special issuewill be a valuable source of information for engineers, scientists, anddecision makers working in the academia, industry, and government. We also hopethat the special issue will be a useful resource for the next generation ofyoung researchers working in this important research area.

We wish you enjoyreading this special issue on CCUS, and look forward to learning about yourresearch results in the area of CCUS in the coming issues of Petroleum.
