On February 14th, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission officially announced the list of universities and disciplines for the second round of "Double First-class" construction. The discipline "Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering" of Southwest Petroleum University was selected again, and the new round of "double First-class" construction was officially launched.
Since SWPU was selected for the first round of "Double First-class" construction in March 2017, with the goal of building a world-class discipline of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering. SWPU authorities carried out The Implementation Plan for The Construction of First-class Discipline of Southwest Petroleum University as the starting point and therefore comprehensively deepened reform and further implemented "Ten Improvement Plans" and implemented 204 supporting reform measures. The relevant departments carry steadily out the "double First-class" program in six categories, organically integrating personnel training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, and international exchanges and cooperation. Southwest Petroleum University will promote the development of disciplines, and drive the overall development of the university with that of first-class disciplines.
In the first round of "Double First-class" construction, Southwest Petroleum University achieved remarkable effects, and the overall evaluation result is: completing periodic tasks with higher quality, making outstanding achievements in meeting great needs of energy industry economic and social development in the west, achieving obvious progress in education capacity and international influence, realizing impressive enhancement in discipline development, and obtaining higher degree of realization of construction objectives.
The construction of world-class universities and disciplines is a major strategic decision of China and a leading landmark project for the construction of a powerful country in higher education in the new era.
