Lecture TopicShale Gas and Oil–the U.S. Energy Revolution

Lecturer:Prof. A. Daniel Hill, doctoral supervisor, academic advisor of SPE International Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference and Exhibition

Lecture Time: Monday, April 1, 2019, 10:20-11:50 a.m.

Lecture Location: State Key Laboratory A403 Academic Hall

Organization of Lecturer: Department of Petroleum Engineering, Texas A&M University

All students and staff are welcome!

Lecture ContentIn the past 10 years, production of natural gas and oil from unconventional reservoirs in the United States has grown tremendously, completely changing the global energy market. This talk presents a history of this remarkable development. The drilling and hydraulic fracturing technology that has enabled this rapid development will be explained. The realities about supposed environmental impacts of hydraulic fracturing will also be reviewed. The recent advances in hydraulic fracturing technology that have enabled this boom to continue even with low oil prices will also be reviewed.

About the Lecturer:

A. Daniel Hillis a Professor and holder of the Noble Endowed Chair in the Harold Vance Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University. Previously, he taught for twenty-two years at The University of Texas at Austin after spending five years in industry.
