Prof. Mostafa Fahmi Hassanein is an internationally recognized scholar and innovator in steel and composite structures, currently serving as Professor of Structural Engineering at Xihua University, China — on leave from Tanta University, Egypt. He earned his PhD in 2009 from Tanta University, enriched by advanced doctoral training at Lule? University of Technology, Sweden, and has since built a career at the intersection of research, teaching, and industry practice. His global journey includes a visiting professorship at Southwest Petroleum University, China (2019–2020), selection as an innovative talent under Sichuan’s prestigious Tianfu Emei Plan, and recipient of the Foreign Expert Project, Sichuan. Recognized among Stanford University’s Top 2% Scientists worldwide (2020–2024), he also shapes the field through editorial leadership as an Editorial Board Member of Thin-Walled Structures (Elsevier) and Associate Editor of the Journal of Engineering and Applied Science (Springer). With more than 135 international publications, his work directly influences international design codes such as EC3, EC4, AISC, and AS4100, advancing structures that are stronger, more economical, and sustainable across their life cycles. His research thrives on global collaboration, reflecting his belief that innovation emerges where disciplines and cultures meet. His contributions have been honoured with the State Incentive Award in Engineering Sciences (2015), the First-Class Excellence Medal from the Egyptian President (2017), and invitations to speak at leading international events across Europe, Asia, and Africa. He has been recognized as a Consultant Engineer in steel design and featured in Who’s Who in the World, underscoring his standing among the top 3% of professionals in Egypt.
